Kathy is currently serving as Vice President Nursing/CNO for SSM Health -St. Louis.  She was promoted to this role in June of 2016.  Prior to that she served as Vice President Nursing/CNO for SSM Health DePaul Hospital, a role she held for 10 years.  During her CNO tenure at DePaul Hospital, Kathy led the entity implementation of the EHR/CPOE, Relationship Based Care nursing care delivery model, as well as introduction and enculturation of a Nursing Professional Practice Model.  Kathy was also instrumental in the development and implementation of Care for Caregivers, a program designed to provide a supportive, healing environment to caregivers experiencing a work related emotional trauma. She was actively involved in “Mission Possible,” DePaul’s Lean transformation journey.  In her new role, Kathy is accountable for the strategic direction and coordination of nursing practice and standards, patient safety, clinical outcomes, as well as patient and employee experience across SSM Health St. Louis’ 8 campuses.

Kathy received her BSN from Southeast Missouri State University and a MHA from Lindenwood University.  She is currently a member of ANA, AONE, MONA and President-elect for Missouri Organization of Nurse Leaders (MONL). Her term as MONL president begins January 2017.

Kathy Starnes

Administrative Director, Staffing SSM Health

Kathy is the Administrative Director of Staffing for SSM Health.  Prior to her current system leadership position, Kathy spent many years with Human Resources at several SSM campuses in St. Louis and moved into a Network role managing the Staffing Resource Center that supports the St. Louis hospitals with contingency resources including an enterprise pool and agency members.  In her current system role, she supports all of the campuses within the 5 regions including Missouri, Mid-Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin and Illinois and is responsible for Contract Resource Management.  In 2005, Kathy received her bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and proceeded to obtain her Master’s Degree in HR Management in 2008.

Shawn Ray is currently the BJC HealthCare System Director of Talent Acquisition for Nursing.  She is an RN and spent over 30 years in Patient Care Services at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in various nursing leadership roles including patient care manager, educator, researcher, retention specialist as well as staff nurse before moving over to human resources.  Shawn spent the last 8 years as an HR Director in roles including talent acquisition, employee relations and organizational effectiveness.

Steve Silver

Senior Director, Contingent Workforce Management & IT Recruitment Kaiser Permanente

Currently serves as the Senior Director, Recruitment Services and HR Operations. He is also responsible for contingent workforce initiative. He assumed his current role in September 2010. Previously, he spent eight years at Apple, where he was a leader in their recruitment strategy. His focus was developing and delivering talent acquisition for Apple’s first facility in Bangalore, India, and launching the iPhone in Europe. Steve also had responsibility for Apple’s contingent workforce management program. He has an extensive background in recruitment, process improvement, and vendor management. Earlier in his career, he owned and operated a chain of retail shops in the Bay Area. Steve has a bachelor’s degree in communication and history.
